The first time I came across handpainted wallpapers was when I was a young student, visiting a castle in South of Germany. The guide dedicated an extra moment to telling a story about the astonishing walls in the drawing room. I was astonished by the skillfully painted fruit trees and rambling roses climbing on the walls. I thought they looked absolutely stunning.
A couple of decades after my experice in this spectacular Bavarian castle I had visited several other sites with these remarkable wallpapers: The Versailles, Drottningholm Castle in Sweden and several other minor castles and manor houses in Europe. I learned that the wallpapers had been hugely popular in the old Hollywood. I started studying the techniques and slowly became to establish contacts with painting workshops in the Chinese countryside where the rare tradition of producing these spectacular artpieces is still ongoing.
Ennisance wallpapers are designed by myself and artists in the Nordic area with the Nordic nature and historical scenes as the motives. The wallpapers are painted according to the centuries old painting tradition in the Chinese countryside. They are handpainted on dupioni silk, a highly lustruous silk weave with watercolors. The work is highly detailed and the technique very rare and exquisite. Each wallpaper is a unique work of art and customized to fit the space.
