The Brushane, also known as the Ruff, gets its name from the strikingly colorful head tufts displayed by males. This unusual-looking bird was once prized for its long white feathers, which were commonly used in Victorian England to decorate collars. In the Nordic countries, the Brushane inhabits marshes and wet meadows.
